Does A Business Card Maker Produce Quality Cards?

If you run any size of business, then business cards are a must.  However, they can also be expensive. 

Therefore many business people are turning to produce their own business cards with free business card software.

This type of business card maker produces cards via your PC, then the cards will be printed off on your home printer.

But is it really free and what quality are the cards at the end of it?

All small businesses, especially home based businesses, are strapped for cash.  So when it comes to promoting your business you really need to keep the reigns tight when you fork out money for promotional products.

One necessary expense are your business cards.  Every business, even individual sole traders, need a good supply of business cards for promotional reasons. But you literally need hundreds of these and this can prove to be expensive.

With the help of a home PC and especially the Internet has helped many small business people make their own cards with downloadable free business card software.  So what does this software do for you?

Once the cards have been designed you insert some card or good quality paper into your home printer and print off the cards. 

I would imagine that it gets a little tricky if you have chosen the option of having content on both sides of your business card as you will have to turn the paper over in the printer and print off the second side.  Please don't hold me to this as I have not tried double sided cards in my printer.

I have however created my own invitations / business cards via this PC method.

So the question remains does this option prove to be cost effective and most importantly, what quality are the business cards once your own 'home production line' has completed?

Just say that you have managed to find some free business card software to produce your own cards.  You still need:

White or coloured card A colour printer A guillotine to cut the cards A lot of time on your hands

We're not talking about making and printing off a few dozen business cards here.  You will need hundreds of these to hand out to potential and present customers.

So you see, by downloading free business card software does not necessarily mean that you are getting your business cards for free.  There will always be an expense, even if it is your own time.

The second question is 'what quality are these home printable business cards'?  With my own attempt at home-made invitations, they were OK for my son's party, but I wouldn't have them as promotional pieces for a struggling new business.

They just would not produce a quality image, in my view.  They would still have a very strong chance of looking home-made.  And that is not acceptable. Even if you run a home-based business it is still vital to look professional at all times, business cards included.

So we have a conclusion that they are not free, actually far from it, and that they will look home-made and not professional business-like.

So, What Is Your Alternative?

You could still design your own cards, then take the original your local Printer where they will produce those for you.  The more cards you get printed, the cheaper the cost will be.
