Is A House Cleaning Business Right For You?

house cleaning business

I thought that a house cleaning business actually warranted a corner of its own for two reasons:

  1. Because there is such a huge and growing
    demand for this service;

  2. Because I used to run my own management
    house cleaning service.

And because I used to run my own home cleaning business, I can share my knowledge and experience in this area with you.

Let’s talk about reason one first, then I will share my experience with you.

#1 Growing Demand For House Cleaning Services

This is one of the most over-looked, but yet most in-demand industries there is around today.

The reason why there is demand for house cleaning services is because people are now becoming 'cash-rich, time-poor'.  Meaning that people are leading much more busy lifestyles these days as they were about ten years ago.

So people who lead very busy lifestyles prefer to spend their time doing hobbies or leisure activities. Not cleaning their houses!

This is where the home cleaning services come in and fill this demand, after all professional cleaners come with some great house cleaning tips.

People are more than willing to hand over their cash and pay for domestic help that will make their life that little bit easier.

This is great news for anyone who is wanting to start up a small business from home and think that a house cleaning business would suit them.

There is a lot of money to be made in this industry - make no mistake about it!

In fact, thousands of small home-business owners are quietly making small fortunes by leveraging off this in-demand industry.

#2 My Hands-On House Cleaning Experience

First of all, there is a huge learning curve when operating any new business from home.  So running your own house cleaning business is no exception.

First, we'll discuss the management home cleaning business route - this was the type of business I ran.

Then we'll cover the independent cleaner route.

Management House Cleaning Service

The management of cleaners allows you to run your business from home while the cleaners go out and do the dirty work (while you sit at home and collect the cash!).

You act as the 'management' of the business where your cleaners are your employees.

This business model is used for ultimate profits.  £100K is not uncommon per year - even in your first year.

However, it is very hard work and you have to wear many different 'hats' while running this business.

This is how versatile you have to be:
Wow, that's a lot of different hats to wear!

(Sidenote: The absolute best way to advertise and promote your business is through house cleaning flyers).

The learning curve is very steep, but you will be learning on-the-job as you go and this is the best way to learn new skills.

Don't worry too much about learning new skills as your business will start off slow, giving you plenty of time to learn different aspects of the business.

Then by the time you are really busy, you will have acquired most of the skills and confidence in running your business and managing cleaners.

You can of course start off your house cleaning business as an independent cleaner, then when you have a full diary you can start hiring/employing cleaners.

If you don't think that you have management skills and would be too overwhelmed wearing all those different 'hats', then this route may not be for you.

Independent Cleaning Service

As mentioned above, you can of course start a home cleaning business as an independent cleaner where you start off on your own.  You would be responsible for the marketing and the cleaning.

You can easily earn about £300/$600 per week working hard as an independent cleaner.

Once you are confident and would like to expand your little house cleaning business into something bigger, then you could start hiring cleaners.

By hiring a team of cleaners, you can honestly make in excess of £100K per year!

It is hard work, but so is any business worth doing.  But the rewards can honestly be massive if you stick at it and do it right.

And don't forget, the absolute best way to advertise and promote your business is through house cleaning flyers.
