Make Your Cleaning Experience A Lot Easier

Everybody's after the best house cleaning tips.  And everybody seems to have their own little stock of house cleaning tips too.

So I thought I would share tips from my own experience from running my house cleaning business.

There are three categories of people who are wanting top tips on cleaning a house more efficiently:

Everybody seems to be operating at a faster pace these days, so cleaning a house more quickly, but still efficient, is no surprise.

  1. You merely want to clean your own house more thoroughly and efficiently;

  2. You are an Independent House Cleaner and want to improve your performance;

  3. You run a House Cleaning Business where you employ/hire cleaners and you want to train them to a better standard.

Below you will find some great house cleaning tips to improve the effectiveness of cleaning houses in a professional style.

Tip #1

Purchase some good quality microfibre cloths and use these dry for buffing areas.  This is the secret key to get shiny glass, mirrors, shower cubicles and all chrome.

Clean the area with a multi-purpose solution and a damp cloth.  Then 'buff' the area up with your dry microfibre cloth.

If you still see streaks on mirrors, chrome etc., this simply means that your 'buffing' cloth is not dry enough.

Tip #2

Save money by using washing-up liquid to wash any internal windows. There is no need to purchase special window cleaning solutions. Washing-up liquid is great as it leaves the window gleaming.  But this is only after you have buffed up the surface with your dry microfibre cloth.

Tip #3

For hygiene reasons, consider using different coloured cloths for different areas of the house.  So for example, you would use red cloths for the bathroom; blue ones for the kitchen and any other colour for elsewhere in the house.

This is particularly important when you are cleaning for a customer.

Tip #4

Scouring pads.  Ideally you should have two different grades.

  • A heavy duty one for stubborn and more robust areas, such as shower-trays (these are usually green);
  • A more light-weight one which is non-scratching for areas such as kitchen bench tops (these are usually white).

If you are cleaning for a customer, be extra diligent when choosing which one to use wear - you don't want to scratch any surfaces.

Tip #5

Cream cleaner is a great solution if you know how to use it the right way. Many people dislike using cream cleaner as they can never seem to get rid of the streaky marks it leaves behind.

The key trick here is to use warm water to rinse the cleaner away.  Then, yes you've guesses it, get your microfibre cloth out to buff the area up.

Tip #6

If you need to dust in awkward and small places, such as between stair spindles or dusting small nick-knacks such as ornaments, then use a shaving/powder brush.

Tip #7

Use a toothbrush to clean areas such as

  • the grout between tiles
  • the toilet rim
  • stubborn marks on skirting-boards etc.

So there you have it, some of my top house cleaning tips.  I hope you found them useful!
